Artists Talks A series of talks by international artists, open to the public is taking place during July. The schedule is as follows: - Thursday, 15 July: Scot Kaylor (American) - Saturday, 17 July: Charlotte von Poehl (German-Swedish) - Monday, 19 July: Jim Adams (American) - Wednesday, 21 July: Timothy Emlyn Jones (Welsh) - Friday, 23 July: Effie Halivopoulou (Greek) All of these talks take place at 10am in the lecture hall and admission is free.
Aughty Public Arts Project This is a curatorial project Áine Phillips (BCA Faculty) has been developing over the last year for the Aughty region of Clare and Galway involving three of our ex students. Marie Connole, Emma Houlihan and Jim Ricks will be making temporary public art works over the summer in the Aughtys. The three projects will be documented in video and photography with a catalogue produced, a short video piece created for internet streaming and a final exhibition in Woodford at the end of the year. The Vivid Season, BCA Summer Scholarship Exhibition 2010 This year the Summer Scholarship Exhibition at Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare is open from Friday 18th June. It is titled “The Vivid Season”. The title reflects the flowering of creativity associated with graduate studies in an art school and the time of year in which the exhibition is taking place, as well as the colourful character of most of the exhibits (pinks and reds predominate). Altogether it’s an upbeat title and an upbeat looking show. The works, all at reasonable prices are for sale and proceeds go into the BCA Scholarship Fund to help finance the education of Fine Art students. Dock Disclosure - June 11th to july 3rd Dock Discourse June 2010 is a four-week exhibition, installation and discussion event project, around the changing nature of the Galway Docks. Initiated and curated by local architect Aoife Considine, Dock Discourse is a multi disciplinary project engaging with artists, thinkers and the general public to comment and question the nature of change taking place in and around the Galway Docks. The works are concerned with ideas of environmental change, development processes, the role of the artist in the changing city along with reconsidering the spaces, structures and habits of this part of the city on the waterfront. Details of Summer 2010 Workshops have been announced... Each August the College hosts a varied programme of 5-day workshops and this year's schedule of courses has been announced and is available for booking. Places are booked on a strictly first come, first served basis and you are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment. Further detail are available here
